To
create a circular bow front skirt the following accurate body measurements
must be taken – skirt’s length, hip depth, and hip and
waist measurements. Body measurements should be as close to real body
proportions as possible for the accurate pattern later. If a customer
desires to have a low-waist skirt, then waist level should be lowered
and measurement from that new point.
First, a designer can take a hip depth measurement which will later aid
in taking a hip circumference. To measure hip depth, it is important to
find and mark the fullest part of the hip perpendicular to the side seam
and measure from it up to the desired waist level. Second, to take a hip
circumference, the designer needs to measure completely around the body,
from the intersection of the hip depth line and the side seam. Finally,
to record a skirt’s length, the designer must measure from the desired
waist level down to the desired skirt’s length.
As soon as the designer is decided on fabrics and accessories and recorded
body measurements, it is important to know how much in length and width
of that particular material he needs to purchase. For example, to create the bow front skirt (90 degrees angle) pattern with the length slightly
above the knee, approximately one yard of Dupont silk is needed. As far
as rubber band and the lace, rubber band should be the same length as customer’s
hips and twenty inches of green lace is needed for the bow.
For price information on fabrics and accessories, one can look up prices
online or go to the fabric store such as Joann’s. Dupont silk prices
vary quite a bit online, but in Joann’s they usually stay in the
rage of $14-$17 per yard.
